Wine Tasting in Seattle

Wine tasting is a fun and unique date for you and your significant other. It gives you a classy and fun night out. Spice it Up has researched and compiled a list of some of the best wine tasting places in Seattle.

The Tasting Room is a co-op that serves wine from eight small Washington producers in an old-timey former warehouse at the north end of Pike Place Market’s Post Alley. You get a great sense here for the freewheeling nature of Washington wine. The makers are experimenting with a wide selection of grape varieties, and while the results include an occasional dud, there are also some surprising discoveries. Multiple tasting flights give you a chance to compare wines side by side.

The latest entry to Seattle's small natural wine scene, beautiful L'Oursin features low-intervention wines with French-inspired seafood (the name, after all, means "urchin" in French), as well as a few land-based delicacies. Take time to read all the wine descriptions, which are sometimes informative but err on the side of entertaining, then pick your server's brain for proper pairings.

While Seattle’s other wine bars tend to be intimate and quirky, Purple is a behemoth. The downtown location is a cavernous room with a 20-foot-tall column of bottles at its center and a wine list running 60-plus pages. Purple aims to make a big first impression, but it also strives to dial down the intimidation factor. Open the wine list and you’ll find thorough, disarmingly chatty notes about your choices. There are 75 wines by the glass and 25 flight options, along with a full menu of upscale comfort food. You'll also find the mini-chain in Kirkland, Bellevue, and Woodinville.

At a glance, you might not realize there's a wine bar here at all, tucked as it is in a little specialty shop selling and sampling various oils and vinegars, dry goods, and, of course, truffle-infused everything. But chance upon an empty seat and you'll find a strong selection of mostly local wines available to sip cheaply by the flight. Good luck beating the Pike Place Market crowds in anything but the off-season, though.

These are only a few of the wonderful wine bars and tasting rooms throughout the city, but these are the ones that are sure to spice up your date night!
